About
Our capacity to connect, both with ourselves (i.e. our passions, feelings, and body) and with others, is crucial to our feelings of well-being. When we connect, we generally feel a sense of aliveness in ourselves and the world. When we can't connect, we feel anxious, isolated, empty, or depressed. I feel my job is to help clients to more fully connect to the range of their experiences. I help adults, adolescents, and couples explore why they lose connection. I help them identify, understand, and overcome the deep root of their disconnection. I help them find well-being, which gives me great joy. I enjoy helping people understand what's happening on "the inside", which requires a present and engaged "other". I find it an honor to be invited into clients' lives in order to help them find greater fulfillment. Among my areas of specialization is an abiding interest in working with men, many of whom find it difficult to sit with their feelings. My genuine interest in understanding the inner world of clients leads me to actively and spontaneously engage in the uncovering process. I especially pay attention to the relationship that develops over time between myself and clients as it can often provide a very rich growth experience. Specialties: I enjoy helping clients to understand and to feel what's happening on "the inside". Among my areas of specialization is an abiding interest in working with men, many of whom find it difficult to sit with their emotions. Men often find it challenging to connect to feelings, without behaving in self-destructive ways, while at the same time, maintaining a "masculine" identity. Credentials & Experience: I have 30 years of experience helping adults and teens in individual and couples therapy. I'm licensed in California, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, New Jersey, and New York. In addition to my doctorate in clinical psychology, I earned a doctorate in psychoanalysis and am a certified psychoanalyst.
"I help clients understand and accept their feelings. I work hard to help my clients put words to their feelings. Growing the ability to experience feelings, while challenging, can be profoundly transformative. This increased ability to experience feelings, allows for the space to choose what to do, or what not to do, with those feelings. This is a permanent change that can lead to a happier life."
