Najiya Shanaa
Licensed Clinical Social Worker
·LICSW, LCSW-CAbout
I have two decades of experience working with people affected by trauma, childhood abuse, PTSD, loss and grief, LGBTQ+ issues, substance abuse, depression, anxiety and other mood disorders. I enjoy working with adults of all ages who are in life transitions or who may feel stuck as they try to move forward professionally or in their personal relationships. My clients are a rich mix of all races, cultures, ages, genders/sexual identities and religions. I am personally aware of the multicultural social and relational issues that many face. In the end, what we all want is to find happiness in our lives and fulfill our potential. Using a blend of psychodynamic approaches, we will address issues that keep you stuck in unhealthy patterns, behaviors or relationships. With more understanding of yourself, your defenses, your family and other significant relationships, you can move forward and shape the future that you want. Let's shut down that annoying inner critic, help you believe in and become your authentic self, and move you towards finding the happiness and peace of mind that you deserve. With time, you will understand why you are stuck in unhealthy patterns and defenses that work against you so you can find the peace of mind and happiness that your deserve. Specialties: During our initial sessions, we will not only delve deeply into the issues at hand, but also understand how you got there, identify your distressing emotions and behaviors that you want to change, and what you can do to achieve those changes. Most of my clients see a gradual lifting of symptoms within the first month and sustained improvement thereafter. Credentials & Experience: I have worked for decades both in the community and in private practice. I have two decades of direct service clinical experience and several years of post-grad training at The Washington School Of Psychiatry and other institutions. I am licensed in DC, VA and MD.
