About

Hi, my name is Laura Urquizu and I'm a Licensed Clinical Social based in San Bernardino, California serving clients statewide via telehealth. I work with children, adolescents, and young adults with developmental disabilities and specialize in treating various conditions such as depression, anxiety, early conduct problems, ADHD, and childhood trauma using Trauma-focused CBT, behavior modification, and Solution-focused to help these clients thrive developmentally, emotionally, and socially. My approach to therapy is based on the individual needs of each child and young adult as they navigate issues related to family stress, peer pressure or bullying, trauma in the form of depression, anxiety, or conduct problems. When working with children or young adults with disabilities, spending time with a parent or family member is essential for gathering information and getting to know the child better. They can expect to be treated with respect as they share their story and the reason for bringing their child to therapy as well as what they hope the child to gain from therapy Specialties: My communication style is calm, reassuring, and empathetic. Providing a safe and nurturing environment is important when working with vulnerable groups like children, adolescents, and young adults with disabilities, so they can share how they are feeling. I pride myself on being patient, caring, and a good listener with the most vulnerable. Credentials & Experience: I have found that my style and approach to providing therapy best fit when working with children, adolescents, and young adults struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, early onset conduct problems, ADHD, and those with mild Autism and other developmental delays.

"My approach to therapy is based on the individual needs of each child and young adult. I most frequently use evidence-based practices such as Trauma Focused CBT, behavior modification, and solution-focused therapy, as they help them increase their sense of safety and develop healthy coping skills and healthy behaviors."
