It takes a lot of courage to ask for help, especially if you have a belief that you ought to be able to handle things on your own. Yet none of us is sufficient unto ourselves. We don't fill our own cavities or do our own surgery. Even those in great physical shape often have coaches or trainers, but no one thinks of them as being "weak" for this assistance. Mental health care is no different. We can all reach a point where help is needed to keep moving forward. So you've come to the right place. Whether it's managing emotions or resolving relationship issues, there are therapies we can use together that will help you become more skillful. Freedom from the ravages of substance use is also possible, especially when we identify and address the fuel for addiction, which is often trauma or shame. I invite you to contact me about working together. I've been helping people for over 40 years and have witnessed change firsthand. There's little that surprises or shocks me anymore, but I'm continually humbled by the trust that individuals place in me to accompany them for a while on their journey through life. Specialties: I find Narrative Exposure Therapy to be especially helpful in promoting healing from trauma. Use of Gottman Method strategies is my working foundation for couples. And Dialectical Behavior Therapy (combined with Twelve Step facilitation) is often helpful for working with addiction, although this can vary depending on the individual's experience. Credentials & Experience: I'm also a Board Approved Supervisor in the state of Alaska for persons needing LPC supervision.
"I don't believe that one size fits all. Consequently, I use an eclectic but thoughtful mix of therapies to promote insight and healing. We can't change what we don't know, so awareness-raising is often the first step, followed by an understanding of symptoms or parts of us, moving toward integration so we can become whole again."
