About

I work with a wide range of people who, on the surface, may seem fine—but inside feel unsettled, overwhelmed, or stuck. Sometimes that shows up as panic, persistent anxiety, painful memories, grief, or a diagnosis that doesn’t quite capture the whole story. Sometimes it’s the weight of a decision that feels impossible or catastrophic either way. These are not problems to be judged or quickly fixed. They are places worth understanding. As a professor-practitioner, I continually refine the approaches I bring into the therapy room. My work is grounded in Rogerian, Attachment-Oriented, and Emotionally Focused frameworks. I also offer EMDR intensives for trauma, shame, and complicated grief. Connection and partnership matter deeply to me. I presume very little about the people I work with. Even destructive patterns develop for important reasons. Therapy is a space where those reasons can be explored with honesty and care, at your pace. My role is to walk alongside you as clarity and change gradually take shape. Specialties: I take an open-ended, exploratory, and reflective approach to guide self-examination. Fear-based Ambivalence to major change is something I especially find important to explore and resolve. But many of my clients come to me with deep pain and grief in relationships that are connected to attachment and emotional wounds from earlier in their lives. For that, I prefer EMDR-type intensives (2-3 hrs). Credentials & Experience: I began in mental health in the mid-90s, completing my masters degree in 1998 and my doctorate (PhD) in 2004. I am a tenured full professor and published researcher (international mental health). For EMDR, I completed both the initial and the 1-year advanced certifications (EMDRIA).

"As a professor, I clinically train students across a multitude of therapeutic approaches. While I primarily come from Rogerian (open ended, relational), Attachment-oriented, Emotionally Focused, and Neurobiologically-based (e.g., EMDR) approaches, I am steeped in Psychoanalytic (Freud, Jung, and Horney), Behavioral and Cognitive, and Problem-Solving methods."
