Susan Valoff
Licensed Clinical Social Worker
·LCSWAbout
I provide supportive, compassionate counseling for adults and older adults who are navigating life transitions; living with mental or physical illness; coping with caregiving stressors; grieving the loss of a loved one; and/or dealing with the challenges of aging. I also work with neurodiverse older adults, including people who are autistic and/or living with dementia, ADHD, or other cognitive differences. We all need someone to listen without judgment, and to help us through difficult periods in our life. Therapy can also be a means to better understand why we do what we do, and how to reach our goals that may seem out of reach. It is important to me to build a supportive partnership with my clients. I offer an initial consultation at no cost so we can both determine if it seems like a good "fit." I utilize different therapeutic frameworks depending on each client's needs. I aim to understand each client's unique challenges and their strengths, and collaborate on a path forward. If you are interested in finding out more about my practice and how we might work together, please contact me by phone, email, or via my website. I look forward to talking with you. **Credentials & Experience:** As a former Geriatric Care Manager, I have expertise in working with people living with dementia, as well as their families. I have additional training in coping with grief and loss. I am qualified to work with people grieving the death of a loved one, as well as other losses.
"I help clients identify their strengths and utilize them to resolve challenges in their lives. Using Cognitive Behavioral and Psychodynamic frameworks, I help client see how feelings, thoughts and actions are connected, and how our patterns of relating can be influenced by our families of origin. Therapy may be short-term and problem-solving focused, or longer-term depending on client needs."
