Licensed Clinical Social Worker
·LCSWAbout
I begin work with clients by creating a safe place for resolving troubling, painful concerns so you can feel peaceful and joyful. You may bring issues that cause remorse, guilt, or shame. Relationships may have become problematic and painful. Dreams could have fallen apart, leaving you feeling disillusioned and hopeless, unsure you can recover. Maybe you have posttraumatic stress from situations that created feelings of vulnerability and distrust. Healing is not easy and you may want a guide, or helper to encourage you to learn to live a life that is full of joy. My knowledge and skills equip me be a guide and teacher to you. I get that finding a therapist and beginning to work is not easy. I create an environment where you can learn to set boundaries to keep you physically, mentally and emotionally safe, perhaps for the first time in your life. Accomplishing this does not happen quickly but in small steps. Once safety is established, other concerns are addressed and focused on. I strive to understand the impact of your experiences on you and to offer ideas, different ways to think of yourself, your challenges, potential and opportunities. Therapy is about change. I provide support and validation to promote change as you work on your goals for yourself. You wanting to change motivates me; let's partner for you to begin your journey. **Specialties:** The main issues that have found their way into my practice are persons with PTSD. I have over 15 years of experience working with combat vets and victims of military sexual abuse, giving me an understanding of difficulties experienced in their lives. And I have treated couples and individuals with depression, life transitions. & anxiety. I feel I work well with persons facing those issues as well. **Credentials & Experience:** I completed my Master of Social Work at the Univ. of Alabama. Later, I trained in Family Therapy at Philadelphia Child Guidance Clinic in Family Therapy. Additionally I completed training at Sheppard-Pratt Trauma Unit in Systems Family Therapy.
"I find several therapy approaches can be effective with clients but at times I feel strongly that a particular modality is best suited for a particular client and situation. I discuss with the client my thoughts and explain the mode in consideration. If client agrees, that is the approach used."
